Lorin Cartwright - Legacy 2017

Lorin Cartwright

Athletic Trainer/Athletics Director/Assistant Principal

Lorin Cartwright began her Pioneer career as an athletic trainer in the fall of 1980. During her tenure as athletic trainer, she built a thriving student athletic training program, becoming known as one of the premier programs in the state caring for the health and safety of student-athletes.  The current training room, that Lorin designed, is second to none in Michigan.

In 1995, Lorin was chosen to lead Pioneer’s athletics department, making her the school’s first woman full-time athletics director. During her 17-year tenure as athletics director, Lorin saw AA Pioneer teams win 86 state championships, three national swimming championships, saw countless student-athletes earn All-American and All-State status, and six coaches named National Coach of the Year in their sport.

Lorin is known for her tireless energy and hard work. She engineered the upgrading of numerous Pioneer’s facilities, including installation of two turf fields, locker rooms, an additional strength and conditioning facility, and the addition of the field house. She also initiated the Ann Arbor Pioneer Athletics Hall of Fame and the renovation of the athletic department trophy cases. Even though she retired in 2012, Lorin continues to work on various activities on behalf of Pioneer.
