Bruce Kimball - Athletic Alumni 2019

Bruce Kimball, Ann Arbor Pioneer Class of 1984, enters the Ann Arbor Pioneer High School Athletics Hall of Fame as an Alumnus Athletics Award winner. Bruce is being recognized for his immense talent and achievements in diving.

 

Competing from 1980 to 1984 at Pioneer in his sport, Bruce earned four varsity letters, four All-State awards, four years of recognition as an All-American, and two state championships.

 

In dual meets, Bruce went undefeated in his sophomore, junior, and senior years. In addition to his two state championships, he finished as runner-up his other two years. He is the current Michigan and Pioneer record holder in diving.

 

Bruce’s diving coaches were Ben Fairman and his father, Dick Kimball.

 

As an individual, Bruce was 14-times age group National Champion and 6-times Senior National Champion.

 

In international competitions as a representative of the United States, Bruce won the Silver Medal at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles in the 10m Platform. In the same event, he won Bronze Medals at the 1982 World Championships in Guayaquil and at the 1986 games in Madrid. In 1983, he won the Silver Medal at the 1983 Pan American games.

 

After finishing the competitive phase of his career as an individual, Bruce turned to coaching young divers. For 25 years, he has been a Kinetic Wellness teacher and diving coach at New Trier High School in the greater Chicago area. In his tenure, Bruce’s teams have won five Illinois state championships. He also has been named Illinois High School Coach of the Year five times. For these accomplishments, Bruce was named to the Illinois High School Athletics Hall of Fame.

 

For all of his accomplishments, the Ann Arbor Pioneer Athletics Hall of Fame welcomes the entry of Bruce D. Kimball, Class of 2019.
