Daniel Eskin - Athletic Alumni 2012

Dan Eskin graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1941.  He was a three year varsity letterman on both the baseball and football teams.  Dan also played JV basketball.  He was captain of the baseball team, earned All State honors in football, and was a starting member of Ann Arbor’s State Championship football team.  Dan achieved these athletic accomplishments despite contracting polio during his senior year.  He was offered a football scholarship by the University of Georgia, but had to decline the opportunity because of residual effects of polio.  Dan attended Eastern Michigan University where he participated in intramural athletics.  He continued his participation in sports by playing in many Ann Arbor city softball leagues and semi-professional leagues.   Dan also played professional softball for the Ann Arbor Nationals.  During his softball career, Dan pitched a total of 25 no-hitters and was selected to many All Star teams.  He ended his softball career in 1956 to focus on his professional career in education.  Dan says that high school athletics contributed significantly to the success he had with his professional, personal, and community accomplishments.  “I feel that high school athletics is an important aspect of the young adult’s maturation, therefore I thank Ann Arbor Pioneer.”
