John Nordlinger - Volunteer 2008

“Nord” John Nordlinger became a teacher and coach at Ann Arbor High School in the fall of 1962.  Forty-five years later he still cherishes friendships and relationships formed over his many years of involvement in the city of Ann Arbor, the Ann Arbor Public Schools, Ypsilanti Public Schools and EMU.  From 1962 until 1968, Nord taught physical education and coach track and wrestling at Ann Arbor High School.  He coaches the only undefeated wrestling team in 1966-67.  In 1970 he found the Ann Arbor Wrestling Warriors, a countywide program for youngsters from age 5 through middle and junior high school.  This program still exists today.  Nord taught, coach and was the Athletic Director at Huron High School from 1968 to 1984.  Since that time, Nord was the Director of Physical Education and Athletics for the Ypsilanti Public Schools, and the Association Director of Athletics at EMU.  Nord has been a member in the following organizations:  Ann Arbor Task Force on Physical Education, Athletics & Recreation, the National Wrestling Association, the Michigan Wrestling Association (as President and Secretary), and numerous other organizations.  Hw was inducted into the Michigan Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Huron Hall of Fame in 2002.  He has come full circle back to Pioneer by creating the Sideout Club to support Pioneer’s volleyball teams-one of his favorite sports, especially since daughter Julie is one of the coaches.  He has also been the announcer for many events at Pioneer including Hall of Fame dinners.
