Ed Bross - Volunteer 2009

Ed Bross was Ann Arbor’s volunteer sports statistician for Football, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, and Wrestling for more than 33 years.  He gave his allegiance to Ann Arbor High School because of his long friendship with Lou Hollway, whom Bross credited with encouraging him in the statistical pastime.  Mr. Bross worked with the police department to encourage troubled and needy youth learn to keep score.  Though Mr. Bross didn’t have children of his own, helping youngsters was a big part of his life.  A volunteer like Mr. Bross was rare in the sixties and even more rare today.  In addition to working as scorekeeper, timekeeper, etc. he often would show up at the end of practice and hand out apples to the athletes as they headed into the locker room.  Ed’s efforts didn’t go unnoticed at the time.  The Ann Arbor News ran a feature article detailing his many unselfish contributions to the Ann Arbor High School athletic program.
