Tony Anderson - Athletic Alumni 2011

Tony Anderson graduated from Pioneer High School in 1981.  He was a member of the swimming and water polo teams for three years, and co-captain of undefeated State Championship teams in both sports.  Tony’s high school swimming honors included All-American in the 50, 100, and 200 yard freestyle, and 400 freestyle relay.  He was ranked 5th nationally in the 200 freestyle and 9th nationally in the 100.  Tony was named Michigan’s Most Outstanding High School Swimmer in 1981 after winning three events and setting three state records at the State High School Championships.  High school honors in water polo included 1st Team All-American, MVP of the Michigan High School State Championship Tournament, and 1st Team All-State as a junior and a senior.  Tony swam for Indiana University where he was a member of three Big Ten Championship teams, was captain for two years, and received Academic All Big Ten honors.  He was a double gold-medalist at the 1983 National Olympic Festival, and participated in the 1984 Olympic Trials.  Tony says, “Without Pioneer Athletics, I would not have attended Indiana University, would not have met my wife, and my kids would not have been born.”  He adds, “Pioneer Athletics simply made the greatest things in my life possible.”
