Marilyn Karr Freda - Athletic Alumna 2011
Marilyn Karr Freda graduated from Pioneer High School in 1972. She was a member of the cheerleading team for three years, earned two Varsity Letters, and was team captain her senior year. Marilyn’s enthusiasm and love for Pioneer Athletics was contagious as she cheered for Pioneer football, basketball, hockey and swimming. She served as the official scorer for the wrestling team, and was also a member of the National Honor Society. In college at the University of Michigan, Marilyn played paddleball, racquetball, and squash. She was also a James B. Angell Scholar. After graduating with a degree in exercise physiology, Marilyn worked for Reebok International for 18 years. She has maintained her passion for athleticism throughout her life, including competing in many triathlons. Marilyn says, “Being a cheerleader at Pioneer gave me the foundation for a lifelong pursuit of fitness and health.” She adds that this has also helped her to instill healthy habits in her children, “which is very rewarding.”
