David Elliott - Athletic Alumni 2012

David Elliott graduated from Pioneer High School in 1979.  He was a member of the varsity basketball team for three years, varsity track and field team for three years, and played football for two years.  David was an All State basketball player.  He placed 3^rd in the State Class A high jump in 1977 and went on to be State Champion as well as Co-Record Holder in the high jump in 1979.  David’s school high jump records, both indoor (6‘ 6 ½“) and outdoor (7’ 0”) still stand.  David was recruited for three sports by NCAA Division I schools, and attended Western Michigan University, competing in basketball for three years and track and field for four years.  He was the starting guard on WMU’s basketball team which was ranked 23^rd in the nation in 1982.  David anchored Western Michigan’s 4 x 100 relay and ran the 200 meters in track.  David says that under the direction of Coach Don Sleeman he learned the correlation between hard work and success.  “The work ethic I learned at that point in time has been a very positive influence on my life.”
