Heather Brown Butler - Athletic Alumna 2012

Heather Brown Butler graduated from Pioneer High School in 1991. She was a member of the cross country and track and field teams.  Heather earned All State honors in track for three years and was team captain.  Her senior year, Heather was State Champion in the 100 and 200 meters, as well as in the 400 meter relay and the mile relay.  She was named the Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 1991, was invited to the Keebler International Track Meet, and was a member of the Junior National Track Team.  Heather attended Indiana University where she was a member of the track and field team from 1991 to 1995.  She was team captain at Indiana in 1995 when she became the Big Ten Indoor/Outdoor Champion in the 400 meters.  She received the Alpha Beta Honorary for academic achievement.  Heather was invited to the Olympic Development Invitational in Boston.  Heather is a current and former record holder at Pioneer High School and Indiana University. She traveled to Europe as a member of the Junior National Seven Nations Team.  Heather says that the cross country and track and field teams at Pioneer were “like family” and that many life long relationships were formed.  She learned the value of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice.  “Yes, I had some involvement in the success of Pioneer Track, but more importantly, the impact of Pioneer athletics on my life is invaluable.”
