Susan Thrasher - Athletic Alumna 2006

This 1961 AAHS graduate could literally be called The Pioneer of women’s swimming in the Ann Arbor area.  Her accomplishments in the pool set the standard for many years to follow.  Suzy received the Elk’s Club trophy for Michigan Swimmer of the Year five consecutive times (1959-63).  At Camp Ak-O-Mak, a nationally renowned training center for aquatic champions, Thrasher was awarded the Matt Mann trophy for Most Dedicated Swimmer.  In 1961, Suzy was named an AAU All -American in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly, long distance team and water polo.   In 1961, she became a member of the first University of Michigan Women’s Swim Team, coached by Rosemary Dawson (Matt Mann’s daughter).

While on land, Thrasher earned a BS in Dental Hygiene from Columbia University (1971) a Masters of Public Health at U of M (1976) and an MS in Library and Informations Science, University of Illinois (1990).

She is currently employed at the Lane Public Library, Oxford, Ohio.  Thanks, Susan Thrasher for planting the seeds that have grown into an awesome string of state and national championships earned by female swimmers at your high school Alma Mater.
