Tom Peterson, MD - Volunteer 2005

Initially made his mark in Ann Arbor as a running back on a 1948 University of Michigan football team which won the Rose Bowl and was crowed mythical National Champions, Dr. Thomas Peterson has served as a team physician for Ann Arbor Pioneer High School for 24 years.  Dr. Peterson has had an orthopedic practice in Ann Arbor since 1958.  He was a founding member of the Society for Sports Medicine and a long-time member of the Sports Medicine Committee of the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.  His involvement with high school athletics is national in nature, working with the National Federation of State High School Associations to develop rules in football promoting safety; especially blocking rules.  He is credited with changing the rule regarding blocking below the waist.  He has been honored by the Michigan High School Athletic Association for his outstanding contributions to high school athletics.  He earned his medical degree and served as an orthopedic resident at the University of Michigan Medical School.
