Marty Sinn Catalano - Athletic Alumni 2005
Martha began competitive swimming in the mid-1950’s but not through the Ann Arbor Public School System. She joined a private all girl’s club, the Ann Arbor Swim Club. Her events were distance freestyle-the 250, 500 and 1650. During the year she swam AAU, she won several state titles and the Ann Arbor Swim Club won many team titles as well. She swam for three years in the international professional long distance marathon circuit and also swam for two year for the first University of Michigan women’s swim team.
Marty turned professional in 1962 and won two Canadian 15 miles events, she swan 25 miles around Atlantic City and swam 25 miles up the Suez Canal.
