Bill Browning - Legacy 2006

To quote his own words, “Bill Browning is a man of many interests and a wearer of many hats: husband, father (he and Mary have five children), teacher, coach, negotiator, School Board member, naturalist, booster, camp counselor, state-wide soccer committee member, Military Policeman (West Point) and hat salesman on U of M football Saturdays.”  Bill is a man with a deep faith in kids and a willingness to work hard and patiently on their behalf.

Bill, who had played competitive soccer in his native New England, started a soccer team at Pioneer in 1977 and remained as head coach until 1996, establishing one of the most successful and respected high school programs in Michigan.  Browning could also be a strong candidate for the Booster Club Volunteer Award for his many years running the press box at high school football games and participating in various fundraisers throughout the community.

The life of just about every Ann Arbor public school student over the last thirty-plus years has been touched in some way by Bill Browning, through the classroom, soccer field, or on field trips to various natural areas of interest.  What a blessing!
